Mississippi’s First Distillery is expanding

Jackson, Miss. (November 10, 2015) – CATHEAD is relocating to a new distillery in downtown Jackson that will increase their production. With a ribbon cutting on December 8th and grand opening celebration on December 12th, they will soon be ready to create more spirits including whiskey, in this larger space.

For the past five years, CATHEAD Distillery has been building its distribution and portfolio of brands and staying true to their Mississippi roots. As Mississippi’s first distillery, they have stayed strong and are now in need of more space to cater to their growth. The new distillery will move from a 7,000 square foot space in Madison, Miss. to a new location at 422 South Farish Street in Jackson, Miss. The new distillery will provide them with 20,000 square feet to make multiple spirits, including CATHEAD Vodka, CATHEAD Honeysuckle, CATHEAD Pecan, Bristow Gin, Bristow Reserve Gin and Hoodoo Chicory Liqueur. The move will provide CATHEAD the ability to distill other spirits, including whiskey.

Austin Evans and Richard Patrick are the co-founders of CATHEAD Distillery and want to keep their new distillery centralized to Mississippi. Evans said, “We are excited about relocating to Jackson. As proud residents of the city, we look forward to providing a destination that contributes to the growing cultural drive that is happening in the downtown area.”

CATHEAD is proud to be a part of Mississippi’s growing creative economy – the state’s cultural and creative enterprises. In fact, CATHEAD is not only a part of the creative economy but also a big supporter. Depending on where you live, a portion of every 750 mL bottle you buy of the original CATHEAD vodka goes to a local foundation to assist musicians.

On Tuesday, December 8th, a ribbon cutting will kick off the opening celebration at 10 a.m. at their new location. Then the grand opening will follow on Saturday, December 12th, and the distillery will be open to the public starting at 12 p.m.  Attendees will get to taste the local spirits, enjoy live music, and local nosh. Tickets are $10 per person for the grand opening event. Everyone in the community is welcome and encouraged to attend both of these events.

People who are hungry for this taste of Mississippi can stop by the distillery for tours and tastings on Thursdays and Fridays starting at 3 p.m. and at 11 a.m. on Saturdays. Tours are set to begin in the weeks following the opening. Guests can enjoy a bar full of local beers, the retail shop and a game of corn hole while visiting. Upon request, private group tours are available. The distillery is also available for private events and business meetings.

“We are so excited to showcase the new distillery on December 12th,” said co-founder Richard Patrick. “We’ve had so much overwhelming support from the entire Mississippi community, and we can’t wait to get the celebration started!”

About CATHEAD

CATHEAD is Mississippi’s first and oldest legal distillery. Founded in 2010 by two best friends, CATHEAD began with their signature CATHEAD Vodka. Current brands in production include CATHEAD Vodka, CATHEAD Honeysuckle, CATHEAD Pecan, Bristow Gin, Bristow Reserve Gin and Hoodoo Chicory Liqueur. CATHEAD is currently distributed in fourteen states. The term “Cathead” is a compliment in Mississippi, first coined by blues musicians as a nod to artists they respect.  Mississippi artists and musicians went on to use “Cathead” in many forms of folk art, as a way to pay the rent and share their legacies.  We work hard to bring honor to the meaning of Cathead through our philanthropic support of live music and artists alike.  For more information, please visit www.catheaddistillery.com Follow us on Facebook or Twitter.
